10 Reasons CM Punk Was Right To Leave WWE

5. WWE Took The Shield Away From Him After It Was His Idea

Punk was the top heel in WWE in late 2012 as the WWE Champion. During the Survivor Series main event match where Punk defended the WWE Title against John Cena and Ryback, The Shield showed up, attacked Ryback and Punk was able to get the win. According to Punk on the podcast, he came up with the idea for The Shield. He suggested the group should have Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Kassius Ohno (Chris Hero, who is Punk's good friend). It didn't happen right away, but then WWE gave it a go and put Roman Reigns in there instead of Ohno because Reigns was a guy they wanted to build up. Punk was fine with it because he figured Reigns could learn from working with them. It looked as though The Shield were going to be aligned with Punk, but then things changed. Punk was never told about it. They booked them so that they would attack some of the faces that Punk was feuding with although they were never officially aligned with him. It also would have looked like a good fit because Punk was the kind of heel that could use bodyguards like them. It's cheap heat. He also felt like when he turned face in 2013 he could have feuded with the three guys in the group, so that way he could have set things up for the future. It's a shame that never happened. He still feuded with them although it wasn't as good as it could have been. The way Punk told the story, it was as if Triple H took credit for coming up with the idea for the group. Punk hated that they weren't aligned with him like he wanted it to happen. It's another example of the problems he had with management.
