Punk told a story about how in late 2012 he had to have a surgery on his knee. This was in December before the TLC PPV. He missed it as the WWE Champion. He should have stayed out of the ring until the 2013 Royal Rumble match against The Rock or maybe the week before that. Instead of letting him heal properly, WWE asked him to wrestle about three weeks after the surgery. It was 4-6 week recovery, but Vince said he needed him to have a TLC match on Raw with Ryback. They didn't really "need" to do the match although it was pretty good even with Ryback's involvement. As a side note, Punk is not a fan of Ryback. He mentioned how Ryback hurt him a few times and he called him "Steroid Guy" during the discussion. It was pretty funny. There was another instance in 2013 post WrestleMania 29 where Punk needed time off from injuries. Vince called him to say they needed him for the June PPV called Payback. They needed Punk on the show so it could sell out in his hometown of Chicago. What Punk really wanted instead was to come back at the August SummerSlam PPV so he would have had four months to feel fresh. It's important that talent is given a chance to heal from injuries, especially a guy like Punk who had over a decade of experience by that point. Due to all of the times he was told to work through injuries, his frustrations grew and while listening to him it's understandable why he was so upset.
