10 Reasons CM Punk Was The Biggest WWE Story Of 2014

10. His Departure Was Never Acknowledged On-screen

One of the biggest questions coming out of CM Punk's walkout was how it was going to be addressed on WWE TV. It wasn't as if he was low on the totem pole at the time of his departure. He was a top name and was one of the few Superstars that kept the product interesting even at its worst. Several fans questioned his absence from the January 27 edition of Raw. It was possible WWE kept him off the show to sell the "injuries" he sustained when he was put through a commentary table by Kane, but he wasn't talked about at all. Despite being removed from all upcoming events, WWE.com made no mention of Punk's departure. It was the hot topic of the week when it was revealed he walked out, but fans highly anticipated the next week's episode of Raw to see how WWE would address it. They didn't. Punk was involved in a program with The Authority at the time of his departure, but it was dropped cold turkey. It wasn't until the March 3 Raw in Punk's hometown of Chicago that Paul Heyman, a close friend of Punk's, name dropped The Voice of the Voiceless during a "pipebomb" of his own. The Authority have alluded to the Punk chants on occasion by calling him a quitter (even though he was technically fired). That's pretty much been the extent of Punk's presence on WWE TV. By this point, even the most casual fan who may not travel to the Internet "dirt sheets" has to know what's happened with Punk, making him socially relevant, regardless.
