The offer: $25 million per fighter, plus PPV bonus. That is what Dana White publicly committed to, for both Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. After a year or more of speculation, and White even downplaying the possibility of a fight between the two men, it was the opening salvo in what could turn out to be a protracted negotiation.

Key word "could," but keep this in mind. Never before has the UFC suggested that they'd be okay with McGregor appearing in a boxing ring. Now, their president is on record saying he'd dish out big bucks to make such a fight happen.

It's a total reversal of course for the UFC. In the past, it was assumed the promotion would use its contract with McGregor to stop the fight from happening. Now, it seems they want to promote it. That opens up a whole other can of worms - as Mayweather is generally in business for himself - but it does signal that we're closer than ever to McGregor vs. Mayweather, and a battle of two sports.
