Without his natural charisma, level of aggression or the backing of WCW management, Bill Goldberg probably wouldn't be heading for the WWE Hall Of Fame. After all, it was WCW's much-maligned creative minds who decided his legendary winning streak that captured the hearts of fans should happen in the first place.

From 1997 onwards, it was difficult to discuss WCW without Goldberg's name coming up; it was because of that winning run that he became the promotion's hottest act. Few cared who Goldberg was facing week-to-week. All that mattered was that he won and the machine rolled on to the next sap who would try and end it.

The 173-match winning run was also one of WCW's best ever angles, and the straightforward 'Who's Next?' catchphrase was something people could easily latch onto. Everyone just wanted to see which sorry heel had a Goldberg ass-kicking coming next.
