10 Reasons Why ITV Should Bring Back British Wrestling

7. All The Fun Of The Fair

A nice nod to history, this. However unlikely it may be given the modern age's obsession with health and safety there's a fascinating possibility thrown up should wrestling return to our prime time screens. Glancing over the hundred-plus year history of the art in this country there's one facet which might just possibly be allowed to make a comeback if demand was great enough. With roots in the music hall as something to liven up various bodybuilding and strongman events , could the tradition make a comeback? Do a little research and the name Jack Carkeek appears. Challenging audience members at these shows to go ten minutes with him in the ring, he's arguably one of the first pros in the 'sports entertainment' sense of the term. Fast forward to George Hackenschmidt and Frank Gotch and there's a certain common lineage. If this sort of thing were allowed to return at village/county fairs and other events, it could supplement what people see on screen as well as providing a glimpse into the past and some easy money for aspiring/trainee wrestlers before that big telly break as well as providing a new means of talent-spotting from among those brave enough to challenge. No-brainer, really.
