6. Olympic Prestige

Kurt Angle is the most impressive athlete to ever step foot in a WWE ring. Dolph Ziggler is in Kent State’s Hall of Fame for amateur wrestling. There have been a host of NFL players who have come and gone through the promotion. Hey, Giant Gonzalez almost made the Atlanta Hawks! But there’s only one Olympic Gold Medalist in WWE history, and that’s Angle.

Besides dominating the amateur wrestling world in 1996, he’s also been inducted in the International Sports Hall of Fame. USA Wrestling named him the greatest shoot wrestler OF ALL TIME! You may not know this, but his Olympic victory was even more impressive because he had a “broken freaking neck” at the time. Kurt may have mentioned that once or twice.

Professional wrestling is predetermined, but Vince McMahon loves his tough guys, and Angle just may be the toughest man to ever be employed by WWE. Sure, guys like Haku and Harley Race could brawl with the best of them, and are among the toughest people to ever walk the earth, but Angle was a trained athlete who could dismantle a man in moments. Perhaps only Brock Lesnar could rival him in a shoot fight at his peak. Having him in the Hall just makes the whole thing a bit more credible.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
