10 Reasons May Is The Most Cursed Month In WWE History
9. The Death Of The British Bulldog - May 18th 2002
Davey Boy Smith aka The British Bulldog was one of the very biggest stars of the 1990's WWF. A lot of that fame was down to his excellent in-ring skill, but it was also achieved by substantial steroid abuse. Davey wasn't just consuming steroids, there was also painkiller problems and a history of cocaine abuse. The entire 90's decade had been all about hard bumping and hard partying, the strain of which eventually started to tell on his body. Vince McMahon tried to help Davey, he put him through rehab, but the damage was done - Davey sadly died aged 39 on the 18th of May 2002. It was a sad day for everyone in the wrestling business, although in some ways unsurprising given Davey's life choices. Despite not being a WWF performer at the time, the media as usual pointed the finger at Vince McMahon and company for creating a culture which was to blame for Smith's death. The company has its share of bad press to start deflecting. Coincidentally, Davey's last ever WWF match also came in May, but a year earlier, he wrestled at a house show and was released shortly afterward.
