10 Reasons Not To Give Up On WWE In 2021

9. The Intercontinental Title

Talking of the company’s secondary strap - whisper it, but there’s a chance WWE might actually be interested in doing something with it again. With the odd exception, the Intercontinental Championship has been badly neglected for many years now. While this may be overly optimistic, though, the belt showed signs of life towards the tail end of 2020.

Sami Zayn as holder was nothing but good news. WWE’s treatment of the former NXT champ has been about as shoddy as the treatment of the belt he clutched for much of 2020, but he made the belt as interesting as it has been in a while. Indeed, his ladder match with Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles is a low-key contender for bout of the year consideration.

Zayn since lost the title to Big E, but if as discussed E is on the ascendancy as we hope, he’ll need to drop the title en route to the main event picture. WWE has so many performers who are treading water at the moment - a midcard built around the chase for a genuinely worthwhile Intercontinental title could solve a plethora of problems.
