10 Reasons Not To Lose Faith In NXT
2020 has been ropey for NXT, but the future is starting to look a lot better for the yellow brand.
AEW is winning the Wednesday night wrestling wars. Since Dynamite made its debut back in October 2019, the AEW show has a 40-8-1 lead in overall viewers, a lead that stretches to 48-1 if the key demo is taken into account. Now, talk about the demo should be left to those in the know, but the results aren't really up for debate. With that in mind, the picture doesn't look particularly promising for WWE's supposed developmental brand. Routinely beaten in the ratings, NXT has been playing catch-up against the simultaneously fresher but more old school AEW.
That all might sound bleak, but fear not NXT fans, for there is hope on the horizon. The past few months have seen a definite upswing in show quality, and there are plenty of reasons for NXT fans to be excited about the future. Whether by design or by accident, NXT has managed to line up a number of ducks that could lead to a fertile future for the yellow brand. Fresh stars, stacked divisions, exciting title reigns and creative logic are generally all one needs for a good wrestling show.
Is NXT about to turn the tide when it comes to the ratings? That is impossible to guess, and who truly cares? We're here to enjoy the shows, and there are a whole load of things to enjoy about NXT moving forward.
10. The Blank Slate That Is The Tag Team Division
This might seem like a bit of a strange one as NXT's tag team division is a shell of its former self, but the lack of established teams could end up developing into a positive for the yellow brand. The glory years of American Alpha, The Revival, DIY, The Authors of Pain and all the rest are gone, but the point isn't to recreate the past; it is to create new history.
With that decidedly-Triple H proclamation out the way, where is NXT going to find teams? Well, it just so happens to have an incredibly deep and talented roster, with no shortages of options when it comes to building a tag team division. It already has champions Breezango, Burch & Lorcan, El Legado del Fantasma and the oddball team of Drake Maverick and Killian Dain, not to mention whatever remains of The Undisputed Era. Early days, but those five alone make a decent enough division. Ever-Rise (the former 3.0) are also ready and waiting for a more focused role.
Add those teams that are currently unavailable like Grizzled Young Veterans and Indus Sher, and all of a sudden you've got a much more competitive tag team division that the show is given credit for.
