10 Reasons Spike TV Will Cancel TNA Impact Wrestling

9. Vince Russo

There is probably no more polarizing figure in the annals of professional wrestling history than Vince Russo. The man who was once accredited with kickstarting the creative direction behind the WWE Attitude Era, he soon became synonymous with the death of World Championship Wrestling, fair or not. His merits as a writer and wrestling mind can be debated (and have been, endlessly) but it's indisputable that he's been at the forefront of some monumental events. Several months ago, rumors started to float around the Vince Russo was back in TNA for yet another stint with the creative department. Fans of the company collectively groaned because they felt that Russo was responsible for some of the worst booking in the promotion's history. Both TNA and Russo himself steadfastly denied his involvement despite the show suddenly featuring some tried and true trademarks of Russo writing. However, when the inventor of "crash TV" accidentally copied wrestling reporter Mike Johnson in on an email that was meant for TNA announcer Mike Tenay, the cat was officially out of the bag and Vince and Dixie Carter were forced to come clean. The news couldn't have come at a worse time. TNA was in the midst of negotiating with Spike for a new TV contract, and right away word broke that Spike was furious with management for employing Russo, someone they apparently thought very little of. This goes along with reports that TNA's working relationship with Japanese promotion Wrestle-1 was in danger due to Russo as well because the Japanese view him as racist and incompetent. It's worth noting that these are just rumors and have not been confirmed by anyone at Spike TV, who have remained silent on this entire issue, but in the case of these things, where's there's smoke there's usually fire. Or maybe it's just another Vince Russo SWERVE. By the way, you can check the man himself out right here with his weekly articles on WhatCulture.com.
