10 Reasons SummerSlam Will Be WWE's Best Show Of 2016
3. Everything About John Cena Vs. AJ Styles
John Cena vs. AJ Styles is going to be fantastic.
It’s the most obvious statement you can make about SummerSlam’s card, but it rings true. Styles has been one of the best wrestlers on the planet for a very long time, and while Cena’s far from flashy, he’s a proven big match performer with an excellent track record. Love him or hate him, Cena has continuously delivered at the highest level, and regardless of his often questionable creative direction, he’s got a back catalogue that most wrestlers would kill for.
Cena and Styles are currently 1-1 in the pinfall stakes. Their feud has drawn-in third parties like The Club and Enzo & Big Cass, and Styles’ old Bullet Club buddies paid a huge role in his win over Cena at Money in the Bank. Cena tied things-up in Battleground’s six-man tag, but it’s time for the two to finally tangle on their own, without any shenanigans. This is the blow-off match WWE have spent the best part of four months building towards, and it’s got all the potential in the world.
Their chemistry is already well-known, and without the screwy finish, Cena & Styles’ MITB match would be considered a classic. WWE have something special on their hands here. It’s the fresh face of SmackDown’s main event scene vs. the unbreakable company pillar, both of whom just happen to be among the best wrestlers on the planet. The story has been good, the segments have delivered, and regardless of who wins, how can this match possibly fail?
