To date, JBL's telling WWE contribution - apart from seeing that the phrase "Wrestling God" can never be used unironically ever again - was laying down at WrestleMania 21 and, in turn, helping John Cena on his way to super-stardom.

But what if that never happened? There were strong murmurs at the beginning of 2005 that JBL was instead going to defend his WWE Championship against a returning Rock, who was - so we were told - keen to add another WrestleMania match to his repertoire.

The Great One seemed to go cold on the idea when they let him know that JBL - not Sting, who he had supposedly been keen to face - would be his opponent. Without their Hollywood outpost on board, WWE brought forward Cena's crowning moment, and they haven't looked back.
