10 Reasons That Prove Vince McMahon Is No Longer A Creative Genius
1. He's Out-Of-Touch With The Current Audience
Although the age of Vince McMahon has not done him any favours with being able to relate to the average television viewer, it's not his biggest obstacle. While it would likely prove challenging for any 71 year-old to remain truly "hip", the number one thing that proves Vince McMahon is no longer a creative genius is simply his inability to connect with his audience.
Despite audiences practically providing a mass market research survey every Monday night, stars like Daniel Bryan would continuously get looked past while Roman Reigns receives endless chances to shine, with another coronation rumoured for WrestleMania 33.
There is little doubt that at one point in time, Vince McMahon was a creative genius. While some would argue that Vince has "borrowed" his most successful creative campaigns from other wrestling promoters such Verne Gagne in the 80s, Paul Heyman in the 90s, and at times, even Eric Bischoff, They say that "greatness lies in the details" and McMahon knew how to take a good creative idea and make it great.
Unfortunately, that time has long passed the Chairman of the Board by as has his ability to understand and connect with what today's contemporary audience wants to see. In fact, Vince's ability to grasp the audience was something he admitted to losing 20 years ago. McMahon even called a meeting in late 1995 to introduce Bill Watts as the new booker and it was around this time McMahon even admitted to many of his talents that he may be out-of-touch with the current audience.
This lead to his over-reliance on The Kliq to help craft his shows, although admittedly, McMahon pulled back from many of their ideas before ultimately giving in, full-bore, which became the genesis of the Attitude Era.
But if Vince McMahon didn't "have it" in 1995, why on earth would he think things would be different after another 20 years?
