10 Reasons That Prove Vince McMahon Is No Longer A Creative Genius
3. He Only Performs With Competition
Competition is great for most any business. So to say that Vince McMahon is the only business owner that produced his best work while in direct competition with another company would not be a fair statement. At the same time, all those other business owners are also not referred to as a "creative genius" like Vince McMahon often is.
When Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple in 1985, he developed the NeXT computer which eventually earned him a return to Apple, this time as CEO. After Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, he developed the critically acclaimed iMac, but he didn't stop there. When he then changed the entire music industry at the development of iTunes and the iPod in 2001, he didn't stop there.
When he then introduced the iPhone that revolutionised the mobile and technology industries, he didn't stop there. But when Vince McMahon introduced the pro-wrestling world to a non-competitive existence, he did stop there.
Despite taking risks on expanding his company with the production of the XFL, WWE Films and the WWE Network, none of those have been the critical success of a creative genius. Had McMahon been the first to introduce the subscriber-based business model of providing on-demand content, that'd be one thing. Instead, he followed in the footsteps of Netflix and other companies, and his own unique wrinkles on the model (a six-month minimum requirement, including WrestleMania and all pay-per-views) have failed.
A successful businessman and educated risk-taker does not make for a creative genius.
