When a Rumble comes together as perfectly as this one, it is easy to overlook the eventual winner of the match in favour of celebrating the bout itself. Complaining about Hogan’s victories in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s is the lowest hanging of fruit, and rarely makes any real sense. Hulk Hogan prevailed here, and this was absolutely the right way to end the greatest Rumble of all time.

The Ultimate Warrior’s stock was rising, but Hulk Hogan was still the clear number one in the company. Hulkamania was at the peak of its powers, and stacking the accolades in his locker made all of the sense in the world. 1990 was a different time for wrestling - crowds wanted to go home happy having seeing the hero prevail.

It has long been reported that Mr. Perfect was initially supposed to win this match. It is undeniable that Hennig deserved to win more championships during his time in the company, but the rumour that Hogan vetoed the booking holds little water. Perfect had already entered a feud with Brutus Beefcake, and the magnificence with which Hogan and Warrior came together could not have been a rushed decision.

Mr. Perfect deserved better throughout his career, but he did not deserve to win this match. Hulk Hogan did, and that was the right way to end the perfect Rumble.
