10 Reasons Why 2016 Has Been A Great Year For WWE (So Far)
What else is in store for WWE in the remainder of 2016?
As wrestling fans, we tend to complain quite a bit, and sometimes rightfully so. The WWE landscape isn't what it once was, for better or for worse.
But it is constantly evolving and improving. If any year has been evident of that, it has been 2016. Since the start of the year, WWE has done an exceptional job of adding more excitement to the product than ever before.
Now, I will go not so far as to say 2016 will go down as one of the best all-around years in WWE history. It is only June after all. But the bottom line is that it certainly has the potential to be. That was apparent in the first few days of the year when AJ Styles and other NJPW stars were rumored to be coming over to the company. Since that extremely shocking piece of news broke, it has been an enjoyable time to be a WWE fan, not knowing what might happen next.
Granted, nothing has been perfect and the product will always have its flaws. For the first time in seemingly forever however, WWE has taken a giant leap forward in focus. The “New Era” isn't just a buzzword: it truly is in effect.
We aren't even halfway through 2016 and it has already proven to be a landmark year for the organization for these ten reasons alone.
10. Tag Team Renaissance
All right, so tag team wrestling in WWE has yet to reach the same heights it did in the 1980s and '90s, but the state of the division is still far better right now than it has been in many years. The New Day alone have made tag team wrestling fun again with their entertaining antics and exciting title defenses, but the rest of the division has filled out quite nicely since WrestleMania 32.
Perhaps the biggest and notable tag acquisition has been former three-time IWGP Tag Team champs Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, who have made waves alongside AJ Styles and look to be challenging for the twin titles soon. The newly called up pairing of Enzo Amore and Big Cass as well as The Vaudevillians have also quickly found success and managed to get over in front of the WWE audience.
The Dudley Boyz and The Usos are also waiting in the wings for a shot at the gold, and the division should only improve once American Alpha surfaces sooner rather than later. I would have simply listed New Day among the ten reasons why 2016 has been a great year for WWE so far, but I felt it was fair to give credit to the rest of the stacked division as well.
