10 Reasons Why 2016 Has Been A Great Year For WWE (So Far)

9. Out With The Old

In order to usher in a "New Era," you have to get rid of the old first. Not to say that the latest round of mass firings from WWE have been beneficial, but several of those Superstars had not been relevant in years and were simply wasting away.

Wade Barrett is a prime example. As much potential as he had to be a breakout singles star, there came a point where it was obvious he wasn't going to get above a certain level. The same can be said for Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, and Alex Riley, all of whom were either fired or left on their own terms in the month of May.

Taking it one step further, the likes of Big Show, Kane, and Mark Henry have hardly been seen on WWE TV since WrestleMania 32. Remember when those three were headlining pay-per-views and closing out episodes of Raw and SmackDown? Thankfully, those days are long gone.

Even John Cena and Randy Orton have taken a backseat to the younger stars this year. Granted, it is largely because they have been out with injuries, but even upon their respective returns, they likely won't be in the main event as often as they were in recent years.
