10 Reasons Why Daniel Bryan's Wrestling Style Cost Him His Career
3. His Neck
This is the reason many people thought Bryan was forced to retire, before he revealed that those concussions were to blame. During an episode of SmackDown shortly after WrestleMania 31, Bryan suffered an injury during a match with Sheamus. WWE allowed him to go on the following week's European tour, and rumours circulated that he had damaged his shoulder and neck again, the same injury that had shortened his WWE World Heavyweight Championship run (he had actually suffered a concussion, but WWE did not want to admit that they had allowed Bryan to work while concussed due to their ongoing class action lawsuit). Bryan was in such bad shape that WWE sent him home. When Bryan first injured his neck following WrestleMania 31, he lost all strength in his right arm which forced his to undergo surgery. After having a cervical foraminotomy to decompress the nerve root in his neck, he thought that he was a rehab period away from making a return to the ring. Sadly this wasn't the case as further tests brought up more damning results in other areas of his body. 16 years working that fast-paced, high risk style certainly caught up with Bryan.
