10 Reasons Why Jake Roberts Is Wrestling’s Original Antihero

6. Believable Opposition

Despite being booked against bigger men, more agile athletes and better technical wrestlers, Jake Roberts had the innate ability to pose a serious threat to each man he stood opposite.

Whether he was against the imposing dominance of physically big stars like Earthquake and The Undertaker, or the skills of technically proficient athletes, like Ricky Steamboat and Rick Rude, Roberts stood toe-to-toe with each man just the same. More importantly, his fearless, calculating approach made him eternally dangerous and the outcome was never a sure thing in the minds of the fans, no matter the opponent.

Working with virtually every star of the time, no man left unscathed once they crossed 'The Snake'. This fact was never more evident than when he tangled with Andre the Giant at WrestleMania V. Despite being considerably smaller than his gigantic foe, the devious and cunning Roberts made you believe.

Roberts didn’t discriminate when it came to opposition; if you stood in his way, he would leave you lying with a DDT and drape a snake over you for good measure. Roberts fought a daily battle with the man in the mirror each morning, so feared no man inside the ring. When he walked the aisle come show time, he did so with a flair that exuded just that.
