After learning his trade under the tutelage of Rikishi and Gangrel, Rusev began wrestling for New Wave Pro Wrestling in 2008. After a-year-and-a-half working for NWPW, he joined Vendetta Pro Wrestling before signing a developmental deal with WWE. So after leaving Bulgaria on his own, with not a care in the world and his eyes firmly fixated on becoming a professional wrestler, Rusev managed to make it to the promised land of WWE in just over two years of being a pro wrestler.
