Yes of course there is on a much smaller scale - the likes of TNA, Lucha Underground, and Ring of Honor all have their own niche followings - but the exposure those companies get means they only appeal to die hard wrestling fans. There's no competition for WWE on a mainstream level. That all ended when WCW was bought by Vince McMahon in a move that was the single biggest blow the wrestling business as a whole. It wasn't only detrimental to the performers in the ring, who now only had one place they could make a very healthy living, but it was also a dagger to the heart of wrestling fans who simply had nowhere else to go but other realms of entertainment if they didn't like what they were seeing. Raw has been competition free for so long, that laziness has inevitably bedded in at ever level of WWE. Slowly and surely, fans are drifting away from the blandness.
