8 Reasons Wrestling's Popularity Is In Decline

5. Cyclical Business

The mid 80s boom was followed by the early 90s slump. The late 90s boom was followed by the closure of WCW and ECW and the slump the business is in today. The rock 'n' wrestling connection, plus a number of major stars stepping into the ring got the then WWF into everyone's conscience back in the 80s, while we all know the levels Vince McMahon went to during the Attitude Era. It'll be interesting to see what tactic the company uses to spearhead another mainstream resurgence for wrestling. Hopefully, by the law of averages if nothing else, the wrestling business has another boom. And with the exposure the business is currently getting through the likes of ESPN - and the fact the roster is arguably at its youngest and most talented it has ever been (without any major stars waiting in the wings it must be noted) - another explosion will be just around the corner. We can only hope!
