10 Reasons Why WWE 2014 Was The Year Of Seth Rollins

1. Breaking Up The Shield

As previously noted, there were plans in place going into WrestleMania 30 to split up The Shield and have them face off in either a Triple Threat or to have Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns face off. What would have become of Seth Rollins is unknown, but needless to say, they took the smart approach of keeping them together. There was no real need to break them up at this point, especially since there was so much left to do, such as turning face. So, they embarked on a babyface run during the spring season and pulled it off tremendously. As their feud with Evolution came to a close, there was heavy speculation as to what was next for The Shield. Many believed Dean Ambrose would be the one to turn, or that WWE would swerve us all by turning Roman Reign instead. But what happened on the June 2 edition of Raw was something no one saw coming. As The Shield stood in the ring ready to do battle with (what was left of) Evolution at the end of the night, Rollins shocked the world by swinging the steel chair he had in hand at Reigns and then at Ambrose. The crowd was stunned speechless. He continued his vicious assault on his former friends for several more minutes before walking up the ramp alongside The Authority, confirming their alliance. Heels nowadays rarely get the kind of heat they should be receiving from fans. Rollins is no cool heel. He did something that no one wanted to see happen: He broke up The Shield. To this day, he's still hearing the after effects of it in the form of the "You Sold Out" chants. He's garnering genuine heat from the fans and has done an excellent job of building off of that. There's no doubt he'll be a breakout babyface at some point down the line, but it'd be best for WWE to get everything they can out of his heel run. He's taken WWE by storm in 2014 and will look to score an even higher level of success going into next year.
