10 Reasons Why WWE's Stagnation Will Never End

3. The Product Insults Our Intelligence

Vince McMahon thinks you're stupid.

It may sound harsh, but the company's product wouldn't be so insultingly derivative if it wasn't true. WWE have been taking their audience for granted for years, but the current era is characterised by hand-holding and absurd levels of simplicity.

If WWE think there's even an outside chance that one of their angles might be misconstrued, they'll hammer you over the head with it again and again and again. It's incredibly frustrating, but it comes with the PG territory, and while the rating has been a considerable net positive for the company as a whole, it'd be nice if the storytellers didn't treat us like infants.

This has manifested in a number of different ways, from minor issues like immature comedy skits to wider problems like their insistence that they're an entertainment organisation, not a wrestling promotion. They expect you to buy into every narrative without question, and that's a huge problem.

It's incredibly hard to feel positive about a company that takes your intelligence as a consumer for granted, and the approach only adds to the mainstream perception that wrestling is a childish artform that isn't to be taken seriously, thus harming its growth.
