10 Reasons Why WWE's Stagnation Will Never End
2. Profitability Over Creativity
WWE exists to generate profit. Logic dictates that creating a high quality product that people want to invest themselves in would be the best way to do this, but not with this company. The McMahons will bend over backwards if given the opportunity to make a quick buck, and while it's hard to blame them for wanting to cash in on valuable commodities, this focus on profitability over creativity is killing their storytelling.
Jinder Mahal's WWE Title push was designed primarily to boost business in the untapped Indian market. It came at the cost of SmackDown's main event scene, which has become a dull, unwatchable mess since his ascension. On a similar note, WWE are now seemingly on the verge of hot-shotting a full on Shield reunion within the next few weeks, burning what should be a hugely memorable moment with just one month of build. Why? To boost ticket sales for TLC - a lowly B-level pay-per-view.
Creating something that people want to watch should produce a natural upturn in profitability, but WWE seem to think otherwise. Sadly, the fact that Jinder's push came as the result of a cynical money-making ploy than a long-term storyline is one of the main reasons why he has bombed so hard, highlighting this approach's critical flaw.
