10 Reasons Why WWE Fans Are Rapidly Losing Faith

3. Lame World Champions

Neither of WWE’s top titles have been handled well in 2017. The WWE Championship has continued on a downward trajectory since AJ Styles needlessly dropped it to John Cena, with Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt standing as the year’s most nonsensical feud, and Jinder Mahal’s coronation offering little improvement.

The Universal Title, meanwhile, started the year around Kevin Owens’ waist. Goldberg, a part-timer, ended his horrific reign in March, and while current champion Brock Lesnar gives the belt prestige, many fans take umbrage with the fact that he’s barely visible on television.

The main event scene is supposed to be WWE’s strongest selling point. These are the apparent biggest stars in the business, competing for the grandest prize, and they should stand above everything else on the card. The situation is improving on Raw, but on SmackDown, the World Title picture is as turgid as ever, and part of this comes from its unconvincing figurehead.

Most fans want a champion they can believe in, not a career-long jobber, someone who’s hardly ever there, or a guy like Orton, who often feels like he’s coasting. Sadly, these scenes have been greatly diminished recently, with SmackDown showing no signs of recovery.
