It's no secret that WrestleMania relies heavily on part-time superstars to show up and bring in former fans and casual audiences. Sometimes their presence defines the entire show (The Rock at 27, 28 and 29), sometimes they are there to put over new stars (Batista at 30), sometimes they pull out surprisingly entertaining exhibition performances (Sting at 31).

WM 32 used its veteran talent in bizarre fashion. First the team of Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin took out the League of Nations for a big pop, then The Undertaker and Shane McMahon concluded a feud that was conceived just four weeks earlier out of absolutely nothing, and then The Rock came out with a flamethrower and beat Eric Rowan in eight seconds...

WM 33 already has a stronger base with its veteran performers as Goldberg has proven he is serious about a part-time run going into next year. His feud with Brock Lesnar still has a lot of gas left in the tank after Survivor Series and he will operating in a meaningful role come 'Mania time. Having veterans actually seem like part of the company gives their WrestleMania performances much more significance, and Goldberg has already proven he wasn't returning just to pick up that WWE 2K17 paycheck.
