10 Reasons WWE Doesn't Need Vince McMahon

9. He's Trading On Nostalgia

One of the biggest problems with WWE€™s legends is that they€™re almost universally babyfaces. No matter what they did, whether it€™s Roddy Piper, Ted DiBiase or Ric Flair, no matter how evil they were in their heydey, the fans know it€™s a show and their happy to see them. Every time they appear there are diminishing returns as their original contributions to wrestling are reduced by their €œglad-to-be-here€ smile and waves. This affects no-one more than Vince McMahon. During his heydey, no-one was more villainous than Mr. McMahon. He was the man who screwed Bret Hart, the man who bullied Zack Gowan, the man who fought God and won. Now to a generation of fans he€™s nothing more than Vince McMahon: Crazy Grandpa. Every time he comes back he risks replacing one reputation with another. If Vince McMahon were to never appear on WWE TV again, he would be remembered as The Chairman of the Board, the Genetic Jackhammer, The Higher Power. Every time he steps foot through the curtain, he diminishes the on-screen achievements of the past twenty years. He€™s had his time in the spotlight, but that time is past. It€™s time to step away gracefully, and let his legacy live forever.
