10 Reasons WWE Royal Rumble 1992 Is Still The Best
1. With A Tear In His Eye
We don't get anything like this in Royal Rumble matches today. The winner is often reduced to just pointing at the WrestleMania sign whilst the pyro goes off in the universal sign of having a main event coming up at the Grandest Stage Of Them All. Ric Flair's victory on this night is marked by quite possibly one of his greatest promos.
Perhaps it's the 'Winged Eagle' World title that now hangs over his shoulder, maybe it's the wild eyes or it could be the fact he looks every bit like a wrestler who has just had one of the most grueling matches in his life but it's a superb piece of work on the mic. From the moment he looks directly into the camera and says the words "With a tear in my eye, this is the greatest moment of my life" you know that Flair has truly arrived in the WWF. He's so keen to confirm this and put a knock on his former employers at WCW that he states the holder of the WWF title is 'number one in the world'.
It's rounded off with Bobby Heenan and Mr Perfect joining him by saying that they told everybody Flair would do it. Obviously for Heenan this completely flies in the face of how much angst he's been putting himself through on commentary for the last hour.
Flair then rounds things off by saying he wants to party which, being as he's Ric Flair, we can only assume he did many times over. The bar tab must have been a big one that night.
