If all of the previous reasons for removing Donald Trump from the Hall of Fame doesn’t move WWE because they’re social issues and just the candidate exercising his right to free speech, maybe this reason will make the company think twice: the almighty dollar.

Advertisers could pull their support of any group or entity that backs or refuses to denounce Trump. We’ve already seen this with a host of companies that have refused to sponsor the Republican National Convention due to Trump’s divisiveness: Apple, Wells Fargo, UPS, Motorola, JPMorgan Chase, Ford, Walgreens, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, FedEx and Pepsi, to name a few.

The result is a convention that is several million dollars underfunded, with organisers scrambling to find a benefactor to write a seven-figure check to cover the gap.

For the record, companies such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Ford have done promotions and sponsorships with WWE. This doesn’t mean that WWE’s corporate sponsors are going to up and ditch the company tomorrow, but if Mattel decided that Trump was too controversial and wanted to distance themselves from any association with him or entities that associate with him, you can bet WWE would jump through hoops.
