10 Reasons WWE Should Remove Donald Trump From Hall Of Fame
2. Cena Calls Out Trump
It’s safe to say that the face of the WWE is by no means a
Donald Trump fan.
John Cena took a swipe at Trump in December when he was a guest on the Today Show just after the presidential candidate announced his proposed Muslim travel ban, saying that the idea “does not go along with our DNA”. But Cena has gone well beyond that in a new video released by the Ad Council.
During the three-plus minute video, Cena never mentions Trump, but the theme of the video, “WeAreAmerica, pretty much makes it clear that it’s not a pro-Trump piece. The ad dissects just “who” America is, with Cena noting that hundreds of millions of Americans fall into categories that Trump has marginalised or insulted: women, LGBTQ members, Muslims, Latinos and people with disabilities.
Cena issues what could be described as a blistering attack against Trump simply by celebrating America’s diversity:
“We know that labels
don’t devalue us, they help define us. Keeping us dialed into our cultures and
our beliefs in who we are – as Americans… I mean, it’s stitched into the stars
and stripes of this country. From the Constitution to Gettysburg, to our motto,
‘E Pluribus Unum’ – ‘From Many, One.’ It’s even in our country’s name: the
UNITED States”.
And you’ve got to remember that Cena is WWE’s biggest star in terms of fanbase and marketability, so if he’s out there preaching a message of love, tolerance and diversity, it’s only fair for some to wonder why WWE is silently allowing Trump to remain in the Hall of Fame.
