In January 2011, five months after debuting, Del Rio won the 2011 Royal Rumble match. This meant his first ever title match would be at Wrestlemania 27 for the World Heavyweight Championship. He was living up to his expensive contract by skipping the mid-card championships completely and going straight into a world title program. Though he lost that match, and the subsequent feud (mostly due to the retirement of Edge, meaning the title was given to Edge's long-time friend and former partner Christian for sentimental reasons) it looked like Del Rio was in the main event to stay. Before long he had won the Money In The Bank briefcase, and by the end of 2012 was a two-time WWE Champion. A further six months later, he was a two-time World Heavyweight Champion. Four world title runs in only two and a half years. And then, from the summer of 2013 to the summer of 2014 hehmm. Wait. That's it? Since losing the World Heavyweight Championship to John Cena last year, Del Rio has struggled to get back into the main event.
