10 Reasons WWE Wanted Rid Of Alberto Del Rio

8. There Is No World Heavyweight Championship Anymore

When the WWE combined their two world championships in December last year at the TLC Pay-Per-View it made good business sense. The days of the Raw and Smackdown rosters being kept separate were long gone, so there was no need for two supposedly equal world champions. For new viewers, it didn't make sense. How can two people in the same wrestling company both be the champion of the world? The unification hurt Alberto Del Rio. He was left in an upper mid-card limbo. He wasn't established enough to go shoulder to shoulder with the likes of John Cena and Randy Orton to compete for the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship, especially with Batista's return and Daniel Bryan's rags-to-riches story being rushed to appease his eager and expectant fan base. Yet he considered himself too big of a name to do what Sheamus or The Miz have done, and take a United States or Intercontinental Championship run to try and re-gain momentum. This left Del Rio in a slump.
