10 Reasons WWE Will Extend CM Punk's Contract

2. So He Won't Wrestle Anywhere Else

WWE.comWWE.comThere was a particular line in CM Punk's 'Pipebomb' promo that seemed to stick more than any other. Well, in all honesty, there were a few explosive moments, but he made a specific reference to plenty of other wrestling factions. He told fans he would win the WWE Championship, and go and defend it in the likes of Ring of Honor - or even New Japan Pro Wrestling. Given Punk's volatile, explosive nature, that could have been a very realistic proposition had the situation actually not been a work. With this situation very much real, there will be some feeling amongst WWE executives that Punk could sign a deal to wrestle somewhere else the minute he is no longer a WWE employee. Perhaps the company do not want the chance for that to even come about - and they may decide to extend his contract to keep him contractually obliged to the WWE in wrestling terms. You would imagine that if Punk did leave the WWE officially, there would be a whole host of wrestling companies wanting to snap him up. Ring of Honor - the place where it all began for Punk - could be a realistic prospect, but not if the WWE tie him into a new deal.
