The brand new cruiserweight division also found itself in that least-enviable of positions: having to start practically from scratch. When you are starting anew in any walk of life every single move you make can have consequences, and this is especially true in the high-octane world of professional wrestling.

WWE has tried to present the cruiserweight division as something totally separate from the rest of RAW, and whilst this idea may be admirable it is also somewhat self-defeating. The junior heavyweights have been left on their own to sink or swim, in a position that no other division has. The tag teams and the women seem to frequently interact with the rest of the RAW Universe, so why not the cruisers?

Not only does RAW have a former Cruiserweight Champion in the shape of Chris Jericho on its roster, it also has a huge number of men who have done battle with the men of the division outside of WWE. Men like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Neville (more on him later), and Cesaro have faced Rich Swann, Cedric Alexander, and others before. Integration may be key to the cruisers.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
