In the first months of The Ministry of Darkness the scene was set for The Undertaker to unleash his maniacal plan to make the WWF a place where ‘Hell has relocated to Earth’.

How did they achieve this? Well, The Acolytes faced Larry Drew and Scott D’amore on Shotgun Saturday Night. Meanwhile, The Brood were showing their allegiance to The Undertaker by demolishing… Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart, and giving a blood bath to Debra. Viscera was on Heat, battling against McMahon’s Corporation by going one on one with Test and The Godfather. At another point The Ministry group attacked Road Dogg and Al Snow, who were giving interviews backstage. Mideon, eyeball jar in hand, didn’t particularly feel intimidating when he was initially introduced, but The Ministry’s wins over lower-tier wrestlers on B-shows didn’t particularly help.

Given that these matches took place in the opening months of The Ministry of Darkness storyline, it became very clear early on that this was merely a way in which to keep The Undertaker busy, taking away any momentum generated from the creation of a satanic group looking to shake the foundations of the WWF. Overexposure in the wrong place has caused many wrestlers to experience a decline in interest from both the company and the fans over the years, and the main bulk of the Ministry’s members suffered from the same issue, tearing through unlucky wrestlers on Heat, and standing quietly behind The Undertaker for all other appearances.
