10 Reasons You Need To Start Watching Impact Again

9. Pentagon Jr.

As stated in the intro, Impact put themselves in the position of having to change their pay-per-view main event with very little time to promote a new one. What they decided to do was deliver Austin Aries vs. Fenix vs. Pentagon Jr. While it was an enticing match on paper, they had already given it away for free over WrestleMania weekend on a co-promoted Twitch stream event with Lucha Underground.

With the rematch set to close out Redemption, the conclusion never seemed in doubt: Aries would successfully defend his title and Pentagon and Fenix would likely leave the promotion before long. Instead, Pentagon shook the company to its core and won the Heavyweight Championship. A bold move that likely confused the Impact faithful who had never seen the wrestler before, but it was a decision that definitely created a buzz.

Pentagon has been killing it in LU and has developed into one of their most entertaining acts since the show’s inception. Besides being great in the ring, he’s a fresh face who looks like he could legitimately kill you with little effort. That makes for a compelling character.

Pentagon also highlights a much needed changing of the guard. He’s not a former WWE or WCW guy. He’s a talent who still has a ton of upside and hasn't been defined down in another promotion. Those are the type of wrestlers Impact should have been building around all along. Even if Pentagon doesn’t stick around for long, he’s a great name to have in their title lineage and truly points to a new creative direction for the company.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
