Play this scenario out in your head.

Chad Gable is called over by a WWE creative team member and told that he'll start randomly showing up in promos for other wrestlers taking notes. When those wrestlers ask to see what he's jotting down, Gable will pull his notepad away and continue scribbling.

A puzzled Chad would be well within his rights to ask what the purpose of that would be. Would he be repackaged as a studious athlete looking to observe how his rivals behave and use it to his advantage? Would he be unveiled as a master in psychology who has analysed the psyche of pro wrestlers to death?

No, he'd ditch it after a few short weeks and everyone would start making height jokes instead. What a massive letdown. 'Shorty G' is much more appealing to WWE's writers than the note-taking wrestler approach was. That prior theory for his observations was also a guess, because WWE chose not to give one.
