8. Tyson Kidd's Royal Rumble Send-off

Tyson Kidd will never wrestle on TV again. Fans across the world have come to accept this by now, no matter the hope provided by the miracle returns of stars like Daniel Bryan and Edge. Kidd's injury, suffered in a 2015 match against Samoa Joe, was a different beast entirely, the sort of experience that people rarely survive, let alone return from. Kidd will go down in history as one of WWE's great technicians and a sorely missed presence in between the ropes.

The former multi-time tag team champion came close to a one-off appearance at the Royal Rumble a few years back, an appearance that would have allowed the now-producer to say goodbye to the fans in a more meaningful sort of way. The Rumble provides the opportunity for wrestlers to be involved with very little bumping, if any at all, making it perfect for someone like Kidd. To be clear, 'someone like Kidd' means 'someone who shouldn't be anywhere near a battle royal'.

The decision was rejected, for obvious reasons. Yes, a battle royal allows for participation without getting physical, but it also happens to be a match in which there are more bodies flying around than normal. The risk was just too great. Kidd is missed, that goes without saying, but given a choice between a one-off Rumble appearance and him being, you know, healthy, there's only one option.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
