What is it with the modern obsession with 'dark' things? You know, characters that have demons, incredibly gifted people struggling with existential crises, that sort of thing. When used to describe character traits, 'dark' is just about meaningless in the modern-day. Give us a character based on Upton Sinclair's 'The Jungle' and I'll lend you my ear.

Still, a 'dark' version of Liv Morgan likely would have been better than whatever we got on the last RAW of 2019. Before Morgan returned to ruin Lashley and Lana's wedding, the Riott Squad star pitched a darker version of herself to WWE creative, to no avail. Liv's inspiration for such a character came from her own personal experiences growing up and wanted to use the character to express suppressed emotions, showing a different side of Liv in the process. Instead, we got anonymous Liv professing her love for Lana for a week or two.

Liv Morgan has all the potential in the world. Not a single person reading this would be surprised to see her headlining major shows at some point in the future, such is her in-ring potential and undoubted crossover appeal. Maybe the creative team missed a trick by not letting her embrace her darker side? Maybe. A 19th-century Russian literature version of Liv sounds fascinating, after all.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
