Back in December, it was first reported that there were plans to turn The Revival into a complete comedy act. The team was set to be a mockery of the Fabulous Ones. Vince McMahon was the one who personally pitched this to The Revival, giving them ridiculous photos/mockups by WWE creative to illustrate the new look he wanted the team to mimic. The Revival were going to receive new cartoony ring music and would wear bow-ties, crazy hats, glow sticks and huge necklaces.

The ridiculous outfits were heavily criticised and made fun of on social media when they leaked online this year. Arn Anderson going so far as to say on his podcast WWE creative must have been high to ever pitch that gimmick and those mockups to wrestling workhorses The Revival, describing it all as “Aladdin sh*t.”

On Talk Is Jericho, FTR's Cash Wheeler said on meeting with Vince McMahon to talk about the new gimmick:-

“We sat down, and Vince hands us these. I'll put my hand on the Bible, and tell you right now, I laughed out loud in front of everybody. It was me and David, Vince, Bruce Prichard, and Corino. They were all serious, they told us why they thought that would be a good idea. There were multiple different versions of their vision for what they wanted to do for us. The pictures have leaked online. They are 100% legit. They were handed to us by Vince McMahon himself. We told them these are bad. These are not good, but we will do these until our contracts expire. We will do whatever you want. We will give it 100% and go all in and have fun with it, but when our contracts expire, we are done. There is no way that we are going to be staying here past June. We got a phone call saying we have been pulled from everything going forward. I don't know if because we agreed to do it, it lost some of its hilarity to them. The numbers that have been reported contract wise, $750,000 per year, the number was higher than that. They offered more than that for us to do the clown cat in the hat."

The duo took advantage and had some fun with the leaked gimmick/images by putting them on a t-shirt on their Pro Wrestling Tees store. The shirt’s no longer featured in their PWT storethough, with the tag team receiving a cease and desist letter from WWE shortly after they went on sale. Seems they didn’t find it as funny as FTR...
