5. Maria & John Cena

Ring any bells? Probably not, but in 2005/6 John Cena and Maria had a couple of run-ins together which lead many to believe that WWE was going to run with them as a permanent on-screen couple. The first instance came in July, 2005 after Cena had been drafted from Smackdown to Raw. Maria, who was playing her 'ditzy interviewer' role, was frowning backstage, upset after being called stupid. Cena told her to show her 'strengths' (as he pointed to her breasts) hide her weaknesses (as he placed his finger on her lips as if to say 'be quiet') and then patted her on the backside as he walked away. The next seed was planted some time later when Cena was feuding with Edge. Lita had attacked Maria (who rarely wrestled) and the two had been booked in the match. Seeking comfort from Cena, Maria frantically explained her fears before Cena kissed her to 'shut her up'. But the romance went nowhere and was quickly dropped.
