6. The Legion Of Doom (1997)
Jim Cornette hits the nail on the head best in his 1997 WWE Timeline for Kayfabe Commentaries when he said, "The nostalgia couldn't keep up with what people's memories were," in regards to Animal and Hawk. It'd been over a decade since two Midwestern powerhouses applied intimidating face paint and fitted their shoulders with spiked pads, and took the wrestling world by storm, imitated many times over. In Cornette's words, "they were almost human," when trying to replicate the success of their earlier runs, and were each hovering around age 40 during the pre-Attitude kick at the can. Crowds still popped for the duo, but to diminishing returns over the next couple of years, after the act wore increasingly thin.
