10 Returning WWE Icons That Couldn't Live Up To Their Legend
3. Rowdy Roddy Piper (2003)
Piper was in a rather dark place by this point in his life, giving morose interviews on the state of professional wrestling, one of which he predicted he wouldn't live to the age of 65. He was also ranting and raving on NWA-TNA programming about Vince Russo having killed Owen Hart. When WWE shockingly brought him in at WrestleMania 19, it seemed like a way to get him to slow his roll. Then Piper wrestled. Fans derided him for his ghostly, flabby physique once his shirt was off, and matches against Rikishi and Mr. America (a masked Hulk Hogan) were atrocious. The depressing run ended in June 2003 once one of his downtrodden interviews aired on HBO's Real Sports, capping off one of the sadder three-month runs for any wrestling icon.
