The current WWE Champion has long been considered one of -- if not, the single -- greatest wrestler in the world. Even before he joined WWE at the 2016 Royal Rumble, AJ Styles was receiving constant praise and acclaim for his matches in New Japan Pro Wrestling, as well as for his prior bouts in TNA Wrestling. Styles entered the world of WWE just one year after Mysterio departed, but the two managed to come together for one match during that brief time period.
For the now-defunct, UK-based 5 Star Wrestling, Rey and AJ tore the house down with a match many thought would never be possible. Both men had seemingly done their homework as the bout was full of reversals and counters. Mysterio honed in on victory, however, after hitting his signature 619. But when he attempted to follow-up with a top rope hurricanrana, Styles countered with a Styles Clash to walk away with the victory.
While many likely never considered that match possible, even fewer thought the potential for a rematch even existed. However, now that both men are part of the SmackDown brand, perhaps Mysterio will receive a shot to redeem his loss in the near future.
