10 Ridiculous Wrestling Gimmicks That Should Never Have Worked
9. bWo
When the nWo hit WCW, it immediately transformed the promotion's fortunes. Hulk Hogan turning heel was huge news in 1996 and just looking back on the moment he dropped a leg on Randy Savage could give even the most jaded fan chills. Over in ECW, Stevie Richards and his gang of merry men, including The Blue Meanie and Nova, created a parody of the New World Order. The bWo - or Blue World Order - sold a hell of a lot of t-shirts and remains one of the funniest group of characters in extreme history. Big Stevie Cool, Da Blue Guy and Hollywood Nova were ridiculously entertaining but the gimmick should never have worked: sure it was satire but the joke should have worn thin after only a few appearances. The fact the stable ran as long as it did and eventually made it's way to WWE TV is nothing short of astounding.
