7. Jerry Lawler Despised ECW

€œHow can this be an urban legend? Lawler used to hate on ECW for years!€ you might be saying. In truth, Lawler never hated ECW. It was all just an act that show once again just how awesome Jerry Lawler is at fooling an entire fanbase. When ECW €œinvaded€ WWE back in the mid 90s, Lawler was at the forefront of those who opposed Heyman and his €œuntalented€ wrestlers. Lawler called them €œExtremely Crappy Wrestling€ and every time he talked about them he looked like his head was about to explode from rage and anger. Many believed that it had to be real emotions. But it was all a ruse, a con to get people interested in seeing ECW wrestlers mix things up with WWE wrestlers. The following quote from an interview with Jerry Lawler over at ClubWWI puts the rumor to an end:

"The appearance that I didn't like ECW and everything is hopefully attributed to my ability to sell what we're trying to do on the air. A lot of people think I really, absolutely hated ECW, which couldn't have been further from the truth. If you look back, you'll see that I was the only one who went and worked with ECW from the WWF. I went and worked their pay-per-views. You don't work on someone's pay-per-view and wrestle on their show if there's genuine bad feelings between the two. I was always... I won't say a big fan, because I was down in Memphis and I didn't really get to see firsthand all they were doing. I heard about it. I knew. Because we were trying to keep the Memphis Territory afloat, I knew the struggles and hardships these guys were going through."

While he may not have been ECW€™s biggest fan, he certainly never hated it as much as his character portrayed.
