10 Saddest Times Wrestlers Couldn't Finish The Story

1. Eric Bischoff

The only story with a worse ending than Game Of Thrones...

Let's rewind to the mid-'90s, when Eric Bischoff was the mastermind behind turning World Championship Wrestling into a massive sports entertainment juggernaut. WCW wasn't just giving WWE a run for its money, it was changing the entire landscape; Ted Turner couldn't count his dollars fast enough.

All wrestling fans know this story. First they got Hulk Hogan, then they launched Monday Nitro, then Hogan formed the New World Order. They couldn't do a thing wrong, until it all came crashing down (and it hurt inside... sorry).

After 83 weeks of ratings wins against Raw, the good times started to come to an end. The spending got out of control, there were some creative blunders, and internal drama started chipping away at WCW's success. Bischoff was relieved of his position at WCW, then brought back as a writer and onscreen character a year later. Eventually, he sided with Hulk Hogan after the incident with Vince Russo at Bash at the Beach 2000 and left for good.

His empire crumbled not long after. WCW ran its last episode of Monday Nitro in 2001, with WWE buying the brand and finally putting it out of its misery.

It's a cautious story of how quickly things can change. Bischoff was the most important man in wrestling at one point; the plucky underdog who was taking on the house. It's just a shame the house always wins, so the story Eazy E was trying to tell couldn't be finished by him.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
