10 Scrapped Wrestling Moments BETTER Than What We Got!
6. Big E Retains The WWE Championship At Day 1
Coming into WWE's first-ever Day 1 event at the beginning of 2022, the eternally adored Big E had been reigning as WWE Champion for a few months.
Sure, that run could have probably been booked a little better up to that point, but folks were still very much into the idea of The New Day man carrying that world title into WrestleMania 38.
Then it happened.
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship match at the PLE was scrapped due to the former getting COVID-19, which resulted in Lesnar being thrown into the planned fatal four-way over the WWE Title - a match involving Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley.
Lesnar would walk out of that five-way as the new champ, of course, but it was later noted on Wrestling Observer Live that Big E was originally set to retain his strap before Brock was added to the mix. Dave Meltzer would then later report on Observer Radio that Seth Rollins was actually once set to walk out of the event as WWE Champion, with Brock surprisingly being set to end Roman's reign at that early stage.
Either of those alternative directions would have no doubt been far more compelling than the two Paul Heyman guys holding all of the gold hostage, though, and could have possibly saved fans from this never-ending 'Tribal Chief' reign all the way back in 2022.
